This is an official petition for a complaint on the course Spanish 1 ( JIC-SPA1.2V-12) and Spanish 2 (JIC-SPA2.2V-12). The students of the study International Communication and Media (ICM) believe it is not possible to pass the Spanish course under the current conditions.
We, long-term students of ICM at Hogeschool Utrecht in Utrecht.
In course year 2015-2016, long-term students of ICM took the exams of (JIC-SPA1.2V-12) and Spanish 2 (JIC-SPA2.2V-12) with insufficient results. Spanish 1 resulted in: 2 passes out of 20 (first attempt) and 2 passes out of 28 (second attempt). In addition, Spanish 2 resulted in 6 passes out of 42. The students state that there is no alignment between the study material and the exam. This makes the course impossible to pass by the students.
To Spanish course needs to be changed immediately. There has to be a clear alignment between the study material and the exams. For example, the practice exam on Sharepoint shows a clear alignment with the material. However, the topics from the PowerPoint Presentations and Student Manual are not mentioned in the actual exams (written and oral). On the contrary, the exams contain questions on unrelated matters, which are infeasible for students to answer.
